Pupil Voice

The Courtyard has impacted my life in a way I never expected, before the Courtyard I was a pupil with a few good BTECs and underwhelming GCSE results, and after leaving The Courtyard, I got a C for both years in Performing Arts A Level, ICT Level 3 and Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths in the space of just two years. Since leaving The Courtyard I did a yearlong apprenticeship at Sadler's Wells doing Digital & Marketing. While completing a Business Administration Level 2 course at Lewisham Southwark College, I also starred in my first professional production called "The Ends" at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden. Today I am working part time at AllChange as a Young Creative, taking part in meetings talking about job opportunities in Islington and helping out with events which involves setting them up and doing the hospitality for the attending guests; I am also writing my first short film which I will co-direct with one of my best friends, and we hope to begin shooting around Autumn or Winter and hold a one off screening of the film around Spring. To this day, I visit The Courtyard at least once every term to see how the teachers and teaching assistants are, and see how my old friends are and how the recent students are settling in. Without The Courtyard, I'm not sure what would've happened to me, but thanks to them I have a great looking CV with tons of qualifications I've earned while with them and many opportunities to seize, and I am very happy to still have a great relationship with everyone there, especially after leaving three years ago.

The Courtyard is a great school because I feel welcome. The teachers are supportive and friendly. I have learned something new in and out of lessons. I have been involved in special projects such as the School Shakespeare Festival and the school choir. I notice how much my confidence in communicating and socialising has improved in the time I have been here.

The Courtyard is fun and enjoyable. You can do things at your own pace and it’s easy to socialise with people.
